Gosh, don't do Kentucky any favors or anything

Nice little article on Christine Hartmann, Fusion setter and future Kentucky Wildcat, in the Beacon News yesterday. It profiles how her hard work and dedication has resulted in her accepting a scholarship offer to Lexington, which the writer seems to consider a charitable act.

Hartmann's reward? An opportunity to help the fledgling University of Kentucky program move up the ladder to national prowess.

Ah. "Help." "Fledgling." Much in the same way a park ranger helps a baby bird that's fallen out of its nest. I'm sure the Kentucky staff and players will appreciate that, describing the program as if it were founded sometime in the past, oh, couple of hours.

While Kentucky is known for many things -- horse racing, college basketball, bourbon -- volleyball isn't exactly on anyone's list of sports to watch.

HARSH. But then Hartmann explains that the program got to the second round of the NCAA tourney last year and finished 2nd in the SEC. (Is that right? ...well, second in the Eastern Division it turns out.)

But the most interesting part of the article comes when the article says that Hartmann could have "followed older sister Rachel to Minnesota or other fellow Rosary standouts like Maggie Griffin (Kansas), Catherine Smale (Iowa) or Kristina Goncher (Bradley) by waiting until her senior year was finished."

Maggie Griffin a Jayhawk? Ray Bechard's mustache instantaneously grew in again when he read that line. Or is something going on with Griffin we don't know about?
