Loeswick v. Lytle-Wilson: A Tale of Two Quotes

Steve Loeswick, who was dismissed from Oklahoma, has found a new home in the bayous of Louisiana, working for Fran Flory and LSU.

Now, given the extreme superlatives Flory dished out to Jill Lytle-Wilson, we anxiously read Loeswick's press release to see if he got the same treatment. I mena, if you're gonna go nuts for Lytle-Wilson, doesn't Loeswick deserve some TLC, too?

Let's go to the quotes.

Round 1
re: Lytle-Wilson: "She is truly one of the bright, young shining stars of women's volleyball with a tremendous future ahead of her."

re: Loeswick: "We are definitely thrilled to have Steve join our program."

Assessment: Flory's thrilled about Steve, but apparently he's not worthy of "bright, young shining star" status. Sorry, Steverino!

Round 2
re: Lytle-Wilson: "We’re thrilled that one of the stops on her way to being a great collegiate coach is back at LSU where she can help us continue to build and continue to grow as a program."

re: Loeswick: "I think he’s a very bright, young, enthusiastic coach."

Assessment: Also thrilled about Lytle-Wilson who's using LSU as a stepping stone, while Loeswick is several positive adjectives.

Round 3
re: Lytle-Wilson: "She left her mark as a player and we’re very confident she will leave her mark as a coach in this program."

re: Loeswick: "He brings a very high level of knowledge in all the areas we need. We’re excited to have him."

Assessment: Lytle-Wilson is going to punch LSU in the face, leaving a scar, and Loeswick fills a need...like a can opener.

In the final tally, I think Loeswick is getting the short end of the deal. It's obvious Flory's glad he's around, but she doesn't quite describe him as the next big thing in volleyball. But, hey, a gig's a gig.
