Adventures in Sports Promotions

According to an article in the Daily Iowan, "Sept. 28 was 'you never know' night at Carver Hawkeye Arena." Now, Lord knows it's hard enough to get the sports marketing department to help out volleyball at most schools, but "You Never Know Night"?

"What're we calling this promotion?"

"I dunno...are we supposed to win this match?"

"Michigan's ranked 11th, but...you never know."

"THAT'S IT!!! Genius!"

"Thank you!"

"Thank YOUUU!"

Since the university sports promo people are usually young and straight out of school, I see this as the future marketeers of the world trying out their best stuff. Wait. Now I am REALLY scared!

Of course they appear very prescient, what with Iowa beating Michigan. Next home match should be "You Still Never Know Night."

This weekend, it's "Hey, why the hell not" Night at Carver Arena, followed by "It worked in Pullman...for a while" Night.
