What? The EIVA isn't a great conference?
Gordon Brunskill of the Centre Daily Times thinks the EIVA, the east coast volleyball conference for men's volleyball, isn't giving neighborhood bully Penn State a decent run for its money. And he's not pulling any punches.
"Taking the EIVA, to be perfectly blunt, is about as impressive as winning 75 cents when playing quarter slots," Brunskill said.
Wait, wait, wait. Is Brunskill actually saying that beating St. Francis, George Mason, East Stroudsburg, Princeton, Juniata, and Rutgers-Newark 90% of the time isn't the great accomplishment we've all come to believe it is?
Color me flabbergasted. I just assumed East Stroudsburg was the Southern California of Eastern Pennsylvania.
"The EIVA is just not cutting it."
Brunskill believes the answer might be a conference switch.
"The obvious and best option would be to join the MIVA, with annually-competitive teams like Ohio State, IPFW and occasionally Ball State and Loyola."
BLAM. Sorry Ball State and Loyola. You only occasionally meet The Brunskill's standards.
The only problem with Penn State leaving the EIVA is that the conference could very well wither and die without the Nittany Lions. Not that I think they should worry about that kind of thing. Ya' gotta look out for numero uno.
Plus, can you imagine the MIVA with Penn State? That would be one rockin' conference. The convergence of teams might forge a title contender on a more regular basis.
